A blondie is a rich, sweet dessert bar. A Southern chef with a musical bent had a preference for brown sugar over granulated and created these "butterscotch bar" cookies in 1982 after watching the MTV video for Heart of Glass by the pop group Blondie.Blondies may contain white or dark chocolate chips, but the dominant flavor of a blondie is brown sugar, not chocolate. They may also contain other ingredients such as coconut, nuts, toffee, or any other chunky candy.Blondies are sometimes served in sundaes, often topped with caramel sauce.
